The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency (ASEPA) has announced the commencement of enforcement activities aimed at ensuring compliance with sanitation fee payments covering the years 2023, 2024, and 2025.

In a public notice signed by the agency’s deputy General Manager Aba Zone, Elder Okezie Ezengwa, stated that businesses and institutions operating across the state have been directed to present evidence of payment or settle any outstanding sanitation fee obligations.

The directive affects a wide range of establishments, including banks, hotels, hospitals, schools, filling stations, gas plants, aluminium companies, bakeries, pure water factories, eateries, motor parks, mortuaries, and other commercial enterprises.

According to ASEPA, all affected organizations are expected to visit designated agency offices in Aba or Umuahia to verify their payment status and ensure compliance with existing environmental sanitation regulations.

The agency emphasized that all sanitation fee payments must be made through the Abia State Treasury Single Account (TSA) using the appropriate payment codes provided by ASEPA.

Officials warned that enforcement teams have already commenced operations and advised business owners not to wait until inspectors visit their facilities before taking necessary action.

The move forms part of the agency’s efforts to strengthen environmental management, improve sanitation standards, and enhance compliance with state environmental regulations.

ASEPA reiterated its commitment to maintaining a cleaner and healthier environment across Abia State through effective monitoring and enforcement of sanitation policies.

Stakeholders and business operators are encouraged to regularize their payment records promptly to avoid possible sanctions or disruptions arising from non-compliance.

The agency noted that the enforcement exercise is expected to improve revenue collection for environmental services while supporting ongoing efforts to maintain public health and environmental sustainability across the state.
