Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has inspected the ongoing construction of a new Governor’s Office and Official Residence within the Government House complex in Umuahia as part of efforts to modernize the state’s administrative headquarters.
During the inspection, the governor assessed the level of work completed and interacted with engineers overseeing the project to ensure that construction is progressing according to approved plans and specifications.
Governor Otti expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, commending the contractor for the progress recorded so far. He encouraged the construction team to sustain the momentum and deliver the project within the expected timeline.
The new Governor’s Office and Official Residence form part of a broader Government House reconstruction and modernization programme aimed at upgrading key public infrastructure and improving the functionality of the seat of government.
The administration said the initiative is designed to provide a more efficient and suitable working environment for government operations while enhancing the overall appearance and functionality of the Government House complex.
Several projects under the Government House redevelopment programme have already been completed, including the renovation and upgrading of the Deputy Governor’s Office, the construction of a new Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), and the refurbishment of major facilities such as the Michael Okpara Auditorium, the Protocol Building, and the Banquet Hall.
Work is also ongoing on other strategic infrastructure projects within the complex, including a modern Government House Clinic, a new Government House Gate, and supporting facilities intended to improve service delivery and administrative efficiency.
The state government maintains that the ongoing projects are part of its broader commitment to rebuilding public infrastructure and creating modern facilities that support effective governance.
With construction progressing steadily, officials are optimistic that the new Governor’s Office and Official Residence will be completed before the end of the year, further advancing the transformation of the Government House complex in Umuahia.
The development represents another milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen institutional infrastructure and provide a more conducive environment for government operations.
