The Kaduna State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has commenced the screening and weighing of pilgrims’ luggage ahead of their return journey from Saudi Arabia, as part of efforts to ensure compliance with aviation regulations and prevent the transportation of prohibited items.

Officials overseeing the exercise said the screening process is designed to ensure that all luggage conforms to approved weight limits while also identifying any contraband or restricted materials that may have been packed by passengers.

According to the agency, weighing scales have been made available at various locations within the pilgrims’ accommodation facilities to allow passengers to verify the weight of their luggage before undergoing official screening.

Authorities disclosed that the luggage belonging to passengers on the first return flight has already been successfully screened and prepared for evacuation from the pilgrims’ residence.

Pilgrims have been reminded that each passenger is permitted two bags weighing a maximum of 23 kilograms each, while hand luggage must not exceed eight kilograms. Officials stressed the importance of adhering to these limits to avoid delays and complications during the return journey.

The agency also warned pilgrims against carrying sharp objects, liquids, or excessive quantities of perfumes and other restricted items in their luggage, noting that such items could violate airline and airport safety regulations.

Meanwhile, officials announced an adjustment to the return flight schedule, with the airlift of some pilgrims expected to commence a day later than initially planned. Pilgrims were urged to remain patient and use the additional time for prayers and spiritual reflection.

The agency further encouraged all pilgrims to comply with established guidelines and cooperate fully with screening personnel to ensure a smooth and orderly return process.

The luggage screening exercise forms part of broader arrangements aimed at facilitating the safe transportation of Kaduna pilgrims back to Nigeria following the completion of the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
