2027: APC Rules Out Review of Primary Election Results

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out any review of the results of its recently concluded primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite protests and petitions from aggrieved aspirants across the country.

Party officials disclosed that the APC has finalized the list of candidates that emerged from the primaries and is preparing to submit the names of successful candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) within the stipulated timeframe.

According to senior party figures, the period for appeals and internal reviews has elapsed, making any reconsideration of the primary results unlikely. They maintained that the party leadership has neither altered nor plans to alter the outcomes already produced by the various primaries.

The development comes amid growing dissatisfaction among some aspirants who alleged irregularities, imposition of candidates, and manipulation of the nomination process in several states. A number of those affected have threatened legal action and demanded fresh primaries.

Party sources, however, stated that most of the petitions received by the appeal panels were found to be without merit, adding that only a small fraction raised issues substantial enough for consideration. They insisted that the overwhelming majority of the primary results remain unchanged.

Several high-profile contests have attracted attention, including disputes surrounding candidates in Delta and Rivers states. Some party members have questioned the eligibility of certain aspirants, while others have challenged the conduct of the primaries in their constituencies.

Despite the controversies, APC officials insisted that the party’s candidate list remains intact and that preparations are underway for the formal submission of nominees to INEC.

The party also dismissed claims that President Bola Tinubu had intervened to influence a review of the primary outcomes. According to party insiders, no directive has been issued from the Presidency regarding any reconsideration of the results.

In Lagos and other states where disputes have arisen, party leaders maintained that all duly elected candidates remain valid winners of the primaries and will proceed as the party’s flag bearers unless otherwise determined through established legal processes.

Meanwhile, some aggrieved aspirants remain hopeful that reconciliation efforts within the party could address lingering grievances before the general elections. Others warned that unresolved disputes could affect party unity and electoral performance if not carefully managed.

As the APC moves toward the next phase of the electoral process, attention is expected to focus on reconciliation efforts aimed at healing divisions and strengthening internal cohesion ahead of the 2027 polls.
