Tinubu, Governors, All Nigerians Responsible for Democratic Failure — Gov Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has stated that the challenges facing Nigeria’s democracy cannot be blamed on a single individual or group, insisting that political leaders and citizens alike share responsibility for the shortcomings of the democratic system.

Speaking on the state of governance and democratic development in the country, Otti argued that President Bola Tinubu, state governors, political actors, and ordinary Nigerians all have roles to play in either strengthening or weakening democratic institutions.

According to the governor, democracy thrives only when leaders remain accountable and citizens actively participate in the democratic process. He noted that the failure of institutions, weak civic engagement, and the unwillingness of stakeholders to uphold democratic values have contributed to many of the problems confronting the nation.

Otti stressed that Nigerians must move beyond the culture of blame and embrace collective responsibility if meaningful progress is to be achieved. He maintained that sustainable democratic growth requires commitment from elected officials, political parties, civil society groups, and the electorate.

The governor emphasized that democratic governance is a shared project that demands transparency, accountability, and active citizen participation. He warned that expecting a few leaders to solve all national challenges without public involvement would only deepen existing problems.

While acknowledging the difficulties facing the country, Otti expressed optimism that Nigeria’s democratic system can still deliver positive outcomes if institutions are strengthened and citizens remain engaged in the governance process.

He further called for greater political consciousness among Nigerians, urging citizens to hold leaders accountable while also fulfilling their civic responsibilities.
