The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially published the name of Chief Barr. Samuel Okezie Nwogu as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The publication, which appeared on Friday, August 1, 2026, on INEC’s notice board and official online portal, follows the conclusion of party primaries and the submission of candidates’ names by political parties in accordance with the Electoral Act.

The development officially confirms Nwogu as the APC flag bearer for the House of Representatives seat representing Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency.

The announcement also comes amid recent speculation over a possible substitution involving the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Chris Nkwonta, with the publication seen by supporters of Nwogu as bringing clarity to the party’s candidature in the constituency.

Supporters across Ukwa East and Ukwa West Local Government Areas welcomed the development, describing it as a victory for fairness, equity, and due process. Many expressed optimism that the APC would present a formidable challenge in the constituency during the 2027 elections.

Reacting to the publication, Chief Samuel Nwogu thanked God, the leadership of the APC, and the people of Ukwa for their confidence in him.

He pledged to run an issue-based campaign centred on job creation, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, improved education, and the overall welfare of the people of Ukwa East and Ukwa West.

Nwogu also called on APC members and supporters across the federal constituency to unite behind the party’s campaign and work collectively toward victory at the polls.

Political observers believe INEC’s publication of candidates marks another important milestone in preparations for the 2027 general elections, as political parties intensify grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement across the country.

Campaign activities are expected to gather momentum in the coming weeks as candidates begin consultations and outreach programmes across the 20 wards that make up the Ukwa East and Ukwa West Federal Constituency.
