Labour Party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Prince Kennedy Ahanotu, has called on his supporters and party members to remain calm amid the ongoing leadership crisis within the party, saying the matter is already before the courts and expressing confidence that justice will ultimately prevail.

In a statement issued on Thursday from Beijing, China, where he is attending an international seminar on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Developing Countries, Ahanotu said he had been informed of recent publications celebrating what some party stakeholders described as a significant political development within the Labour Party.

According to him, the seminar brings together officials from Nigeria’s Office of the Vice President, the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and 32 experts from 11 countries.

Reacting to the developments, Ahanotu dismissed suggestions that they would distract his presidential ambition, describing them instead as a reminder of the need to strengthen democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law, and preserve internal democracy within political parties.

He maintained that the issues surrounding the Labour Party’s leadership and internal administration remain before the appropriate legal institutions and expressed confidence that the judicial process would produce a fair outcome.

The Labour Party presidential hopeful also reaffirmed his commitment to his “Future Now Agenda,” a political vision centred on youth leadership, accountable governance, and citizen-focused development.

According to Ahanotu, his political movement is driven by principles rather than personal ambition or political expediency, stressing that its objective is to build stronger institutions capable of delivering sustainable national development.

He added that the movement’s success should not be measured solely by the outcome of the 2027 general election but by its long-term contribution to strengthening Nigeria’s democratic culture and governance.

Commenting on the country’s political environment, Ahanotu lamented what he described as a tendency for consistency and principled leadership to be overlooked in favour of compromise, while expressing optimism that history would ultimately vindicate those committed to truth, justice, and institutional reforms.

He appealed to supporters, sponsors, party members, and Nigerians who share his vision to remain peaceful and await the final pronouncement of the Supreme Court on the Labour Party leadership dispute before any further political decisions are announced.

Ahanotu also called on members of the judiciary, particularly the Justices of the Supreme Court, to continue safeguarding the independence, integrity, and credibility of the nation’s judicial system, noting that public confidence in democracy depends significantly on the strength of the courts.

He concluded by urging Nigerians to remain committed to building enduring democratic institutions capable of outlasting political parties and individual officeholders.
