The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a strong warning to clubs in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), urging them to fully comply with club licensing regulations ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The federation stressed that there would be no compromise in the enforcement of licensing requirements, noting that every club must meet the stipulated standards to participate in the upcoming campaign.

According to the NFF, the club licensing system remains a critical component of efforts to improve professionalism, transparency and competitiveness within Nigerian football.

The federation explained that the regulations are designed to ensure clubs operate according to internationally accepted standards in areas such as finance, infrastructure, administration, legal compliance, youth development and sporting performance.

It warned that clubs that fail to satisfy the licensing requirements risk sanctions, including the possibility of being denied participation in league competitions.

The NFF added that the National Sports Commission (NSC) has thrown its full weight behind the strict implementation of the licensing framework, underscoring the government’s commitment to raising the standard of football administration in the country.

Football administrators were encouraged to complete all documentation, improve their operational structures and address any outstanding deficiencies before the commencement of the new season.

The federation expressed confidence that strict adherence to the licensing regulations would enhance the credibility of domestic competitions, attract greater investment and sponsorship, improve player welfare and strengthen the overall growth of Nigerian football.

The warning comes as clubs intensify preparations for the 2026/27 campaign, with licensing compliance expected to play a decisive role in determining eligibility for participation in both domestic and continental competitions.
