Spain have secured a place in the final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after defeating France 2-0 in a commanding semi-final performance.
The European champions produced a disciplined display to overcome Didier Deschamps’ side, extending their impressive unbeaten run and moving one step closer to lifting their second World Cup title.
Spain took the lead in the 22nd minute when Mikel Oyarzabal calmly converted a penalty after Lamine Yamal was brought down inside the box.
The second goal arrived in the 58th minute as Pedro Porro combined brilliantly with Dani Olmo before finishing past French goalkeeper Mike Maignan to double Spain’s advantage.
France struggled to create meaningful opportunities throughout the contest, with Spain’s organised defence effectively containing the attacking threats of Kylian Mbappé, Ousmane Dembélé and Michael Olise.
Luis de la Fuente’s men controlled possession for long periods and looked comfortable as they saw out the victory to book their place in Sunday’s final.
The result ends France’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive FIFA World Cup final, while Spain will now face the winner of the other semi-final between England and Argentina in the championship match.
Spain have enjoyed an outstanding tournament, combining defensive solidity with attacking quality, and will head into the final full of confidence as they chase another historic World Cup triumph.
