Nigeria has been confirmed as the host nation for the 2026 CAF Awards, with Lagos set to stage African football’s most prestigious annual awards ceremony celebrating the continent’s outstanding players, coaches, clubs, and national teams.
The announcement was made by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), which revealed that the event will be held in Lagos, marking Nigeria’s return as host of the prestigious ceremony for the first time since 2015.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts in Iganmu, Lagos, one of Nigeria’s premier cultural and entertainment venues. However, CAF has yet to announce the official date for the event.
The decision to award hosting rights to Nigeria further reinforces the country’s growing role in African football administration and major sporting events. Nigeria is also scheduled to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly in October 2026, although CAF has not indicated whether both events will be held during the same period.

Other expected categories include Men’s Interclub Player of the Year, Women’s Interclub Player of the Year, National Team of the Year, Club of the Year, and the Goal of the Year award, alongside several other honours recognising excellence across African football.
The African Player of the Year award is expected to remain the highlight of the evening, attracting global attention as Africa’s finest footballers compete for one of the continent’s most coveted individual honours.
Hosting the CAF Awards is expected to provide Nigeria with significant economic and tourism benefits as football fans, media organisations, sponsors, and delegates from across Africa converge on Lagos for the event.
