The Executive Chairman of Umunnochi Local Government Area in Abia State, Sunday Afurobi, has strongly refuted claims of his resignation, dismissing a circulating letter attributed to him as a forgery.
Over the weekend, rumors spread that Afurobi had stepped down from his position, with a purported resignation letter addressed to Abia State Governor Alex Otti making rounds on social media. The letter, which bore a falsified signature of the chairman, sparked confusion among local government staff and his supporters both in Umunnochi and across the state.
In response to the controversy, Afurobi categorically denied the resignation claims, asserting that he remains firmly in charge of the council. He condemned the document as a deliberate attempt by detractors to mislead the public and destabilize the local administration.
“This resignation letter is a complete fabrication, and I have no intentions of leaving my position,” Afurobi stated. “My legal team and security agencies are currently investigating the source of this misinformation.”
He urged the residents of Umunnochi to disregard the false reports, remain calm, and continue their support for Governor Alex Otti’s administration.

As investigations continue, Afurobi reassured the public of his commitment to serving the people and advancing the developmental goals of the local government.
