Enyimba International Football Club has appointed popular sports journalist and Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Abia State Chapter, Bethel Kalu, as its new Media Officer.
The appointment, confirmed by the club’s management under the leadership of FIFA ambassador and former Super Eagles striker Nwankwo Kanu, forms part of ongoing reforms aimed at repositioning the nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions ahead of the new season.
Kalu is widely regarded within Nigeria’s sports media community as a seasoned journalist with extensive experience covering Enyimba and Nigerian football. Over the years, he has built a reputation for his commitment to sports journalism and advocacy for improved access and welfare for journalists covering the NPFL.
Club management said the appointment is expected to strengthen Enyimba’s communication strategy, enhance engagement with supporters and the media, and professionalise the club’s public relations operations.
Sources close to the club noted that bringing in an experienced sports journalist reflects the management’s determination to improve the club’s public image and bridge communication gaps that have existed over the years.
The appointment is also part of a broader restructuring process at the club. In recent weeks, changes have been made to key technical and administrative positions as Enyimba seeks to restore stability and competitiveness following a challenging campaign.
Industry observers believe further adjustments may be made before the start of the new season as the club intensifies efforts to rebuild and reposition itself for domestic and continental success.
Based in Aba, Enyimba remains Nigeria’s most successful football club, having won multiple league titles and becoming the first Nigerian side to win the CAF Champions League, a feat it achieved twice.
