Due to the growing tensions and apprehensions arising from the Road construction in Akirika Obu by Abia State Government and at Azumini Ndoki, by the Akwa Ibom State Government, the pragmatic Mayor of Ukwa East LGA, Hon. Chibunna Akara led the Ukwa East team to a discussion with the Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, whose office is vested with the boundary matters.
The Ukwa East Chief Security Officer opened up the discussion and presented the issues in Akirika Obu and Azumini to the Deputy Governor.
Chief Barr Fidelis Nna spoke for Azumini Community, while Barr Okey Nna spoke for Akirika Obu Community.
The Hon. Commissioner fo Information, Prince Okey Kanu and member representing Ukwa East State Constituency in Abia House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Lewis Obianyi spoke extensively on what Government needs to do for a sustainable peace in both Communities and in Ukwa East generally.
In his response, the Deputy Governor emphasised that Abia State Government under the able leadership of Dr Alex Chioma Otti will never cede any inch of Abia land to any State.
On Akirika Obu, he asserted that armed security personnels will be deployed there until the Road is completed and commissiond.
On Azumini road matter, he pleaded for calm and cooperation from the community.
He hinted that his office is furthering discussions with his counterpart, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, who is currently out of the country.
He however, strongly maintained that Abia State Government has documents which include, payment for burrow pit to Azumini Community by COSSEL Construction Company for soil excavation and Environmental Impact Assessment, (EIA) carried out by the Abia State Government and the commitment of the Construction Company to properly manage erosion issues at the Lagos street end adjoining the major way in Azumini
Community.
He also advised the families whose properties were affected by the road construction to go ahead and receive their compensations from the Akwa Ibom State Government.
