The inaugural edition of Lagos Queens Cup is scheduled to hold from July 8th to 11th, 2026, at the Legacy Pitch in Surulere, Lagos. Eight top women’s teams will compete, with scouts from Finland and Sweden expected to attend.
Participating teams include FC Robo Queens, Dannaz FC, Victory FA, CATS Ladies, Ayisat Yusuf FA, Dreamstar Ladies, Nakamura FA, and Asisat Oshoala Academy. Matches will take place daily from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Ahead of the tournament, Ibidoyin Aina, the Founder of Herizon Sports Initiative, expressed that the Lagos Queens Cup aims to provide players with direct access to international opportunities.
“Our girls should not have to wait for a national team call-up to access international opportunities. The Lagos Queens Cup transcends being just a football tournament; it is the first dedicated women’s football scouting event of its kind in Nigeria,” Aina remarked.
“For far too long, many gifted players have had to wait for a national team call-up to gain international recognition. We believe that talented players should have the opportunity to be noticed based on their skills. By bringing reputable local and international scouts to Lagos, we are establishing a direct connection between talented players and professional clubs.”
Aina further noted that the event seeks to establish Lagos as a center for women’s talent identification.
“This tournament also aims to enhance football connections between Nigeria and clubs in Europe. We aspire for Lagos to be a reliable destination where clubs can confidently discover exceptional talent. The Lagos Queens Cup is not merely a competition; it is a movement to create more pathways, more opportunities, and a brighter future for women’s football.”
The Lagos Queens Cup is backed by the Lagos State Football Association, 36 Lion Investment, Herizon Sports Initiative, Ayisat Yusuf Football Foundation, Diego Nakamura, Ivory Health Club, and Africa Football Empowerment Congress.
