Manchester United have officially revealed the location of their proposed new stadium, confirming that the club’s future home will be built just 350 metres north-west of Old Trafford.

The planned 100,000-seat stadium will occupy land recently acquired by the club and, if completed, will become the largest football stadium in the United Kingdom. While the announcement answers the question of where the new ground will be located, the long-term future of the historic Old Trafford stadium has yet to be determined.

A New Home at the Heart of Trafford Wharfside

The Manchester United new stadium location forms the centrepiece of the ambitious Wharfside Masterplan, a major regeneration project designed to transform the Trafford Wharfside district into a vibrant destination throughout the year.

The wider development includes:

  • A world-class sports and entertainment district
  • Thousands of new homes across the 150-hectare regeneration area
  • Improved public transport infrastructure
  • New pedestrian and cycling routes
  • Expanded green spaces and public areas

Project leaders believe the regeneration could create up to 48,000 jobs while contributing an estimated £7.3 billion annually to the UK economy over the project’s lifetime.

Collette Roche, CEO of Manchester United’s New Stadium Development, described the publication of the masterplan as another significant milestone in delivering a world-class stadium while helping transform Trafford and Greater Manchester.

Trafford Council to Decide Next Step

The project must still receive planning approval before construction can begin.

Trafford Council is expected to vote on the masterplan on July 20. If approved, the proposals will enter an eight-week public consultation running from July 28 to September 22, allowing residents, supporters, and local stakeholders to review the plans and provide feedback.

Manchester United has also released concept images illustrating how the redeveloped Trafford Wharfside district could look. The club has emphasized that these renderings are preliminary and remain subject to further revisions.

Old Trafford’s Future Remains Uncertain

For now, Old Trafford will continue to host Manchester United matches while planning progresses.

Although the club has now confirmed where its new stadium will be built, no final decision has been announced regarding the future of the iconic ground, which has been United’s home for more than a century.

The confirmation of the Manchester United new stadium location marks one of the biggest milestones yet in the club’s long-term vision, bringing supporters one step closer to seeing where the next chapter of Manchester United’s history will unfold.
