Nasarawa State governor, Abdullahi Sule, has been commended for providing the people of Nasarawa State with the dividends of democracy, especially in the area of sports development.
This commendation was given by United Kingdom based Nigerian Sports consultant, Anthony Duruji.
He praised Governor Sule for transforming Sports in the State through various sports developmental programmes spread across the state.
The United Kingdom based Nigerian sports consultant, Anthony Duruji who is the chief executive officer of YADHAY sports & contractors, a UK sports consulting firm, commended Governor Sule especially in the area of providing standard sports infrastructures for athletes, improved Athletes amongst others, which has seen the state football clubs Nasarawa United FC and Nasarawa Amazons perform well in recent years.
Buttressing his reasons for commended Governor Sule, the UK based sports consultant, listed some of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s achievements in Sports to include:
- Renovation of the 7,500 capacity Lafia City Stadium to meet the required standards.
- Remodelling of the Lafia Sports Arena, formerly known as the Lafia City Hall, affixed with state-of-the-art facilities, to host various indoor games.
- Improved and enhanced welfare of players and officials of Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons football clubs, who both play in the elite domestic football leagues in Nigeria.
- Procurement of officials vehicles for players and officials of Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons to ease the challenges of movement to honour league matches across the country.
- Construction of a mini sports complex across the three senatorial districts of the State, also assuring that the projects will be completed before the end of his administration.
- Rebranding of the defunct Governor’s Football Cup tournament, also having futuristic plans to revive the long-forgotten Nasarawa State Sports Festival, which previously used to be a platform to showcasing new sports talents in the state.
Governor Sule’s administration has continued to support multiple grassroots sports development initiatives across the state.
He has facilitated the sponsorship of several outstanding sports people for refresher courses, home and abroad, and still doing so till date.
Today, both Nasarawa United and Nasarawa Amazons football clubs are doing the State proud in top flight football league.
The State athletes keep churning out medals in various sporting events, nationally, and thereby promoting the image of the State at regional and National sporting meets.
Governor Sule also believes in rewarding hard work.
This he has shown, with regular incentives to sports athletes and coaches who have shown, Passion, dedication and commitment, of which keeps bringing glory to the State.
In recognition of Governor Sule’s gaint strides in sports development, the National Association of Sports writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) recently recognized and awarded him for his outstanding contributions to the development of sports in the state, and the country at large.
Anthony Duruji therefore, called on the people of Nasarawa State to support and ensure that Governor Sule continues the good work in the state, by ensuring that he is voted into the red chambers as a senator in the forthcoming 2027 elections.
