Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has filed a ₦15 billion defamation suit against Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, over allegations of bribery, corruption and abuse of office.
The suit follows claims made by Adeyemi during a press conference in which he alleged that Gbajabiamila demanded a 48 per cent kickback from a ₦27.3 billion take-off grant allegedly approved for a federal agency.
According to the court filing, Gbajabiamila described the allegations as false, malicious and defamatory, insisting that he had never met or communicated with Adeyemi and had never authorised anyone to demand or receive money on his behalf.
The Chief of Staff also denied allegations that he received ₦400 million through a proxy or requested an additional ₦200 million to facilitate presidential approvals.
Through his legal team, Gbajabiamila argued that the statements had seriously damaged his reputation and exposed him to public ridicule, stressing that the allegations were entirely fabricated.
In the suit, he is seeking ₦10 billion as general damages, ₦5 billion as aggravated damages, and an additional ₦200 million to cover the cost of the legal action.
He is also asking the court to compel Adeyemi to publish a full retraction and an unreserved apology in at least five national newspapers and across all platforms where the allegations were circulated.
The suit further seeks an order restraining Adeyemi from making or publishing any further defamatory statements against the Chief of Staff.
The legal action comes amid ongoing investigations and court proceedings surrounding the controversial agency linked to Adeyemi, with the Presidency maintaining that the organisation has no legal recognition.
The matter is expected to proceed before the FCT High Court, where both parties will have the opportunity to present their cases.
