Nigeria’s Super Eagles were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw against World Cup-bound Jordan in an international friendly played in Antalya, Turkey.
The encounter, part of a four-nation invitational tournament, saw both sides share the spoils after a fiercely contested battle.
Jordan took an early lead in the 17th minute through Mousa Tamari, capitalising on a well-worked set-piece to put the Middle Eastern side ahead.
Nigeria responded with resilience, drawing level through Moses Simon after a sustained attacking move. The Super Eagles then completed the turnaround before half-time, with debutant Emmanuel Fernandez finishing off a precise cross to hand the three-time African champions a 2-1 lead at the break.
Despite dominating spells of the second half, Nigeria failed to extend their advantage, leaving the door open for Jordan to fight back.
Their persistence paid off in the 77th minute as they grabbed an equaliser to make it 2-2, punishing defensive lapses from the Nigerian side.
The closing stages of the match were overshadowed by controversy after Alex Iwobi was shown a red card following an altercation with an opponent, reducing Nigeria to 10 men.
The result means the Super Eagles wrap up their March international window with a win and a draw, offering mixed outcomes for the coaching crew as they continue preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures.
While there were positives, including Fernandez’s impressive debut and attacking flashes from the team, defensive lapses and discipline issues remain areas of concern moving forward.
