US. President Donald Trump has said he is unconcerned about whether Iran participates in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite growing uncertainty over the country’s involvement in the tournament scheduled to take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Speaking in a recent interview, Trump delivered a blunt response when asked about Iran’s potential presence at the global football event, stating that he “really doesn’t care” whether the Iranian national team competes in the tournament.

The comment comes amid escalating tensions between the United States and Iran, which have raised concerns about travel restrictions, diplomatic relations, and security arrangements ahead of the World Cup. Iranian football officials have also acknowledged uncertainty over whether the team will be able to participate under the current political climate.

Iran had already secured qualification for the tournament and was expected to compete in matches scheduled to take place in U.S. cities, including Los Angeles and Seattle. However, ongoing geopolitical tensions and recent military developments in the region have cast doubt over the team’s ability to travel and participate in the competition.

Despite the uncertainty, football’s governing body FIFA has not announced any official decision regarding Iran’s status in the tournament. Officials have indicated that the situation is being closely monitored while preparations for the 2026 event continue.

The 2026 World Cup is expected to be the largest edition in the competition’s history, featuring 48 national teams and matches hosted across multiple cities in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The tournament is projected to attract millions of fans and generate significant global attention, making any political controversy surrounding participating nations a matter of international interest.

Trump’s remarks have since sparked reactions across political and sporting circles, highlighting once again how global sporting events such as the World Cup often intersect with diplomatic tensions and international politics.
