Former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that political mobilisation for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election does not require the involvement of a sitting governor in Rivers State. Wike made the assertion while addressing political stakeholders and supporters, stressing that established grassroots political structures remain strong enough to secure electoral support for the president.
The minister maintained that Rivers State has long relied on entrenched political networks rather than executive office holders to galvanise support for national candidates. According to him, political mobilisation in the state is largely driven by party loyalists, local leaders and stakeholders who command influence at ward and community levels.
Wike emphasised that the outcome of elections in Rivers has historically depended on the ability of political leaders to organise and maintain strong party structures. He argued that these structures, built over several election cycles, remain capable of delivering votes for Tinubu regardless of the position or political alignment of the state governor.

The FCT minister further highlighted his continued influence in Rivers politics, describing his political base as resilient and deeply rooted across the state. He expressed confidence that supporters loyal to his leadership would rally behind Tinubu when the time for mobilisation begins ahead of the next presidential poll.
Wike also reiterated his commitment to strengthening alliances and consolidating political support across party lines where necessary. He noted that collaboration among party stakeholders and political actors would play a crucial role in ensuring victory for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State and beyond.
The remarks come amid ongoing political realignments in Rivers State, where tensions between key political figures have shaped the state’s political landscape. Observers believe Wike’s comments signal preparations for the 2027 elections as political actors continue to strategise and reposition themselves for future contests.
