The former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Adolphus Wabara, has disclosed that there are ongoing efforts to bring Governor Alex Otti back into the fold of the PDP.
This revelation was made during his speech at the 80th birthday celebration of a prominent PDP figure and respected statesman, Dr. Eme Okoro, which took place on Sunday at the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Umuahia.
Wabara’s comments come in the wake of last week’s failed attempt by a former party spokesman, Elder Abraham Amah, to suspend him for allegedly acting against party interests following his positive remarks about Governor Otti’s decision to award the construction contract for the Port Harcourt Road in Aba earlier this year.
In his address, Wabara clarified that his praise for Governor Otti’s developmental achievements in Abia State is based on factual evidence and not influenced by party politics. He emphasized that the PDP would welcome Governor Otti’s return to the party. Furthermore, he argued that political affiliations should not overshadow the acknowledgment of genuine contributions towards societal development, advocating for a clear distinction between governance and politics.
Wabara also highlighted his commitment to expanding the PDP’s membership by attracting new members, suggesting that this effort deserves recognition.

As an elder statesman, Wabara affirmed his intention to always speak the truth regardless of party lines. He stated: “Politics ends after campaigns and elections, then governance begins. Even a blind man can see what is happening in Abia. Since they said I was suspended for acknowledging the truth, maybe, they should now go on air and expel me. But I must speak the truth. Governor, continue to do well. Our ancestors in Abia are with you, and I want to believe that you are on constant touch with them for guidance. Every Abian is happy with you.”
He further praised the significant progress achieved under the leadership of Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Governor Otti in Abia, noting their impact across the entire South East region. “I came from Enugu two days ago and I saw the massive development by Governor Peter Mbah of the PDP. Even APC people are confessing that you and your colleague, Peter Mbah are pace setters.”
Concluding his remarks, Wabara reiterated his unwavering stance on speaking the truth: “Nobody can sack me for speaking the truth. So, continue to do the good work you are doing in Abia. Even the blind man can see it. I’m one of those who will continue to appreciate you.”
He added, “I have never mentioned your party – the Labour Party. I have always said Gov Alex Otti is doing well. Nobody knows where he will swing in 2027. So, when these characters (Wabara’s critics) are doing this and that, let them know I’m talking about Alex Otti. We are all wooing him. Governor, we are all wooing you.”
