International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has officially kicked off the 100-day countdown to the 2026 World Cup, highlighting the tournament’s start on June 11 with Mexico facing South Africa.
The announcement was made this Tuesday on FIFA’s official X page.
However, the governing body did not provide an update on Nigeria’s complaint against DR Congo over alleged ineligible players in the African playoff final.
Recall that Nigeria lost to DR Congo on penalties in November 2025, and the Nigeria Football Federation,NFF, petitioned FIFA in December over players’ eligibility, with no ruling issued more than two months later as DR Congo prepares for intercontinental playoffs.
The delay has sparked frustration among Nigerian fans and football stakeholders, with the complaint potentially able to reinstate the Super Eagles in the qualification process if upheld.
