Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has stirred widespread reactions after warning Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections or risk instability in the country.
In a viral video circulating on social media, the street-hop artiste urged citizens to back Tinubu’s re-election bid, linking the President’s continued stay in office to peace and national stability.
“We need peace. If you don’t want war in Nigeria, vote Tinubu,” Portable said in the video.
The singer went further to make ethnically charged remarks, specifically addressing Yoruba voters, warning of dire consequences for those who fail to support the President.
He also invoked traditional deities while reinforcing his stance, a move that has since attracted criticism from various quarters.
Portable, who has openly declared his support for the ruling All Progressives Congress, disclosed that he had been mobilising grassroots support for Tinubu ahead of the next election cycle.
The comments have triggered mixed reactions online, with critics condemning the use of fear and ethnic sentiments in political messaging, while supporters argue that the singer was merely expressing personal political views.
Political observers say such rhetoric, especially when tied to ethnicity and threats, could further deepen existing political and social divisions as Nigeria gradually approaches the 2027 elections.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from the Presidency regarding the singer’s remarks.
