The Abia State chapter of the Labour Party has conducted a peaceful state congress in Umuahia, resulting in the emergence of a new leadership team led by Peter Azubuike as state chairman.

Azubuike emerged through a consensus arrangement adopted by delegates during the congress, alongside other members of the State Working Committee. Chucks Akamadu was named state secretary, Ben Otti as organising secretary, and Emenike Iroegbu as publicity secretary.

Governor Alex Otti, who attended the event, commended party members for what he described as the orderly and mature conduct of the congress. He said the smooth process reflected growing unity within the party. The governor also pledged full support for the new leadership, stressing the need for a seamless take-off of the administration and greater cooperation among party members.

According to Otti, the congress marked a fresh beginning for the party in Abia, adding that internal divisions should give way to collective progress and a common purpose.

In his acceptance speech, Azubuike thanked delegates and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, promising to unite members and strengthen the party’s structure across the state. He also expressed confidence that the party would leverage the popularity and performance of Governor Otti to secure broader electoral victories in future contests, particularly the 2027 general elections.

The successful congress is being viewed by party stakeholders as a key step in consolidating the Labour Party’s influence in Abia State ahead of upcoming political activities.
