The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has emerged unopposed as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress for Bende Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kalu’s emergence followed a pronouncement by registered APC members across the 13 electoral wards that make up the federal constituency.
The wards include Bende, Itumbuzo, Uzuakoli, Umuhu, Ozuitem, Umeimenyi Nkpa, Igbere A, Igbere B, Item A, Item B, Item C, Alayi and Ugwueke Ezeukwu.
The exercise reportedly took place simultaneously across the wards, with party members turning out in large numbers at their respective ward offices to participate in the affirmation process.
Party stakeholders, ward executives and delegates across the constituency commended Kalu’s leadership style, legislative performance and commitment to grassroots development.
They described his unopposed emergence as a reflection of the confidence and trust reposed in him by party members and constituents.
According to the stakeholders, Kalu’s tenure as a lawmaker has attracted impactful projects to the constituency, strengthened party unity and enhanced representation for the people of Bende at the national level.
Speaking after the affirmation of his candidacy, the deputy speaker expressed appreciation to party faithful, traditional leaders, youths, women groups and constituents for their continued support.
Kalu reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more democratic dividends, promoting inclusive governance and supporting policies aimed at improving the welfare and economic opportunities of the people of Bende Federal Constituency.
The deputy speaker has represented Bende Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives since 2019 and currently serves as one of the top-ranking lawmakers in the National Assembly.
