Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has announced plans to donate ₦18.7 trillion, representing about one-third of his estimated ₦56.2 trillion net worth, to support initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and improving the lives of vulnerable people.
The Nigerian business magnate said the donation forms part of his long-term philanthropic vision to address some of Africa’s most pressing challenges, including healthcare, education, nutrition, and economic empowerment.
According to Dangote, wealth should be used to create lasting opportunities for others, especially those who lack access to quality education, healthcare services, and economic opportunities.
The billionaire industrialist explained that his charitable efforts would focus on sustainable development projects capable of transforming communities and giving millions of people the opportunity to build better lives.
The planned donation is expected to be channelled through the Aliko Dangote Foundation, which has over the years implemented several intervention programmes across Nigeria and other African countries. The foundation has funded vaccination campaigns, educational initiatives, disaster relief programmes, food assistance, and other humanitarian projects.
Dangote noted that philanthropy is not only about giving money but also about investing in people and creating systems that can produce long-term social and economic benefits.
