Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have been handed a challenging group at the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup after being drawn alongside France, Hungary, and South Korea.

The grouping presents a stern test for D’Tigress, with France widely regarded as one of the tournament favourites, boasting a strong roster and consistent performances on the global stage.

South Korea also pose a significant threat, having defeated Nigeria during the recent qualifying tournament, while Hungary add further European depth to what analysts describe as a highly competitive group.

D’Tigress qualified for the World Cup after emerging champions of the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket, cementing their status as Africa’s top women’s basketball side.

The 2026 edition of the tournament, which will take place in Germany, features 16 teams following an expansion by the sport’s global governing body, FIBA.

Under the competition format, group winners advance directly to the quarterfinals, while second- and third-placed teams enter a qualification round for a place in the last eight.

For D’Tigress, the draw signals a demanding path but also an opportunity to test themselves against some of the world’s best teams as they aim to improve on previous World Cup performances.
