A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of factional Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, intensifying the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.
The order was reportedly issued by Justice Peter Kekemeke after Turaki failed to appear in court for his scheduled arraignment, prompting the judge to mandate his immediate arrest.
Turaki, a former minister and a key figure in one of the rival factions within the PDP, has been at the center of a protracted leadership tussle that has continued to polarize the party.
The development adds a legal dimension to the PDP’s internal crisis, with multiple claims to leadership and legitimacy already weakening the party’s cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.
Legal analysts say the court’s action underscores the judiciary’s growing role in Nigeria’s political disputes, particularly in cases involving party leadership and internal governance.
With the warrant now in effect, attention shifts to law enforcement authorities and whether Turaki will submit himself to the court or challenge the order through legal means, a move that could further shape the trajectory of the PDP crisis.
