The Federal Government has directed the withdrawal of legal action against Ms. Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger accused of assaulting a flight attendant and clashing with security personnel at Lagos Airport on August 10, 2025. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo announced the decision on Wednesday after consultations with critical stakeholders in the aviation sector, following widespread public outcry and appeals from civil society, the Nigerian Bar Association, and other concerned individuals.
Emmanson, who was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet bail conditions, will be released immediately, and the lifetime flying ban imposed on her by the Airline Operators of Nigeria will be lifted. Minister Keyamo noted that evidence showed wrongdoings on both sides, stressing that the incident had served as a lesson on proper airport conduct for both passengers and aviation staff. He also condemned the leaking of a viral video showing the passenger in a compromising state, ordering disciplinary action against those responsible.
In a related development, the Federal Government has reduced the flight ban placed on Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, from an indefinite restriction to one month. Criminal complaints filed against him have also been withdrawn. The action stems from an August 5, 2025 incident at a domestic terminal, where KWAM 1 was accused of disorderly conduct. The artiste later apologised, clarifying that a flask in his possession contained medically prescribed water, not alcohol as alleged by airport officials.

Keyamo said the government would engage KWAM 1 as an ambassador for proper airport security protocols, leveraging his influence to promote appropriate behaviour among travellers. He added that aviation authorities would hold a special retreat to retrain security personnel on managing unruly passengers and defusing tense situations without escalation, noting that while clemency had been granted in both cases, aviation safety and security would remain a top priority.
