Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 13 Ebonyi indigenes in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, describing the attack as a horrific and senseless act of violence.
In a statement released late Tuesday night by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident, labeling it an assault on peace, unity, and the sanctity of human life.
“It defies logic that a group of peaceful, law-abiding citizens gathered for a meeting could be shot at point-blank range. This is completely unacceptable,” the governor said.
He revealed that he has personally reached out to Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, urging for an immediate, thorough, and transparent investigation into the killings. Nwifuru emphasized that bringing the perpetrators to justice is critical, warning that any failure or compromise could strain the relationship between the two states.

While awaiting the outcome of the investigation, Governor Nwifuru called on Ebonyi residents especially the affected families and communities to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory actions that could further escalate tensions.
“This level of barbarism has no place in a civilized society. The full force of the state will be deployed to identify and bring the killers to justice,” he declared.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of Ebonyi citizens, both within the state and in the diaspora.
He assured the public that there would be no sacred cows in the pursuit of justice and pledged to monitor the case closely to ensure accountability.
