On that fateful evening, Joe sat down to enjoy a simple yet comforting meal of pounded yam and okro soup. “It was such a soft and delicious meal,” he recalls. However, as he took the first bite, something unexpected happened. “The first lump I swallowed got stuck inside my throat,” Joe explains. Unbeknownst to him at the time, a large bone from the dish had lodged itself in his throat.
“I started forcing it down with multiple lumps of food, hoping it would dislodge,” Joe shares. But despite his efforts, the bone remained firmly in place, causing immense discomfort. The situation quickly escalated into a major health crisis. “The big trouble started,” Joe admits, as the pain intensified and showed no signs of abating.
By Tuesday morning, unable to bear the persistent discomfort, Joe sought medical attention. “I went to the hospital and underwent a scan, but they didn’t see any signs of a bone in my throat,” he recounts. Despite this, the pain persisted, leaving doctors puzzled. Medications were prescribed, but they offered little relief. For days, Joe could not consume solid food. “Quaker oats became my only source of sustenance from Monday to yesterday,” he reveals.
Joe’s ordeal continued for nearly five days, with the pain remaining consistent and unyielding. Finally, on Thursday evening, he returned to the hospital for another scan. This time, the results revealed that the bone had somehow slipped further down, causing multiple wounds along its path. “A major surgery commenced immediately,” Joe recalls. “They gave me a sedative, and I slept off. The rest is now history.”
When Joe woke up after the procedure, he felt an immediate difference. “I woke to notice the excruciating pains had subsided and vanished into thin air,” he joyfully declares. It was a moment of profound relief and gratitude, one that reminded him of the power of faith and resilience.
Joe extends his heartfelt thanks to the medical teams at Marigold Hospital and Conel Hospital in Surulere, Lagos, who played a crucial role in his recovery. “Thank you, Marigold Hospital Surulere,” he says. “Thank you, Conel Hospital Surulere.”
Ultimately, Joe attributes his miraculous recovery to divine intervention. “To God be the glory, Amen,” he proclaims. “And endless Alleluia!!!”

This story serves as a powerful reminder of the strength found in faith and the importance of perseverance during life’s toughest moments. As Joe puts it, “The God Almighty rescued me.” Amen indeed!
