The political temperature in Ekwusigo Local Government Area is rising ahead of a landmark event this Sunday, as Hon. Sir Ikenna Sylvester Ofodeme, a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, prepares to formally declare his bid to seek re-election in the 2027 general elections under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA),.
The declaration, scheduled for Sunday, 10th May 2026, at the Ekwusigo Local Government Secretariat by 12 noon, is expected to draw large crowds of constituents, community leaders, traditional rulers, party faithful, and well-wishers who have been mobilising in the days leading up to the event.
In his declaration message addressed to “the dear people of Ekwusigo,” Hon. Ofodeme expressed deep gratitude for the trust his constituents placed in him, while making a compelling case for why they should do so again.
“With a heart full of gratitude to God Almighty and deep appreciation to you all for your support over the past years, I wish to formally inform you of my intention to seek your mandate once again to represent you in the Anambra State House of Assembly,” the statement read.

The lawmaker pointed to progress recorded during his current tenure across three key areas — security, community empowerment, and grassroots development while acknowledging that the constituency still has ground to cover.
“Your trust gave me the opportunity to serve, and together, we have made meaningful progress in security, empowerment, and community development. However, there is still more work to be done,” he stated.
Beyond his legislative record, Hon. Ofodeme is widely regarded in Ekwusigo as a man of deep faith, an ordained figure whose passion for his people goes beyond political calculation. Supporters describe him as a fearless voice who has consistently championed the interests of ordinary Ekwusigo residents within the chambers of the Anambra State House of Assembly.
With Sunday’s declaration fast approaching, community mobilisers have been urging constituents to turn out in force not merely to witness a political event, but to deliver a powerful statement of grassroots confidence in their representative.
In his declaration, the lawmaker reaffirmed his core commitment to integrity-driven service and result-oriented representation.
“I remain committed to serving you with dedication, integrity, and results. With your continued support, we will build a stronger and more prosperous Ekwusigo,” he pledged.
He also made a personal appeal that goes beyond politics asking his people to cover him in prayer as he embarks on this new phase of his public service journey.

“I humbly ask for your prayers, support, and encouragement as we continue this journey together. Thank you and God bless you all,” the statement concluded.
As Anambra’s 2027 election season begins to take shape, early declarations like Ofodeme’s are being watched closely by political analysts monitoring how the APGA structure is positioning its candidates across the state’s various constituencies.
For now, the immediate focus is this Sunday and whether the people of Ekwusigo will respond to the call with the kind of overwhelming turnout that sends an unmistakable message ahead of what is shaping up to be a consequential election cycle.
The official declaration event holds this Sunday, 10th May 2026, at 12 noon at the Ekwusigo Local Government Secretariat, Anambra State. All supporters and community members are strongly encouraged to attend.
