The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has taken full responsibility for the widespread failures recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
At a press briefing held earlier today, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, became visibly emotional as he acknowledged the technical and administrative shortcomings that marred the exercise.
He disclosed that approximately 379,997 candidates would be required to retake the examination due to significant disruptions, including technical glitches, abnormally low scores, and reports of irregularities.

Prof. Oloyede, who repeatedly paused to compose himself, admitted institutional lapses and accepted full responsibility for the failures. He further announced that candidates from 65 centres in Lagos and 92 centres across the Owerri Zone—comprising five southeastern states—would participate in the rescheduled examination.
