The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi State Command, has issued a stern warning to its recently trained armed personnel, stating that accidental discharge of firearms will not be tolerated under any circumstance.
Speaking in Abakaliki on Wednesday during a guard of honour mounted by 83 officers, State Commandant Mr. Francis Nnadi emphasized the importance of discipline and strict adherence to rules of engagement.
“These personnel, having undergone intensive arms training at the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Ohafia, Abia State, must demonstrate heightened discipline and constant vigilance while bearing arms,” Nnadi said.
He reiterated that the NSCDC, under the leadership of the Commandant-General, is committed to revitalizing the Corps across the country. According to him, this initiative is being actively pursued by all state commands to enhance operational effectiveness.
The Commandant further revealed ongoing collaboration with the Ebonyi State Government, particularly in safeguarding critical assets such as the Chuba Okadigbo Airport in Onueke.
“Our mandate includes the protection of vital infrastructure, and the advanced arms training will be instrumental in fulfilling this responsibility. Trained personnel will be strategically deployed across the state to maximize their capabilities,” he explained.
Commenting on the evolving security landscape, Nnadi acknowledged that criminal elements and non-state actors are becoming more sophisticated, stressing the need for security forces to remain steps ahead.
He commended the officers for their impressive performance during the parade, noting that many had previously completed specialized training in counter-terrorism and other tactical operations.
Also present at the event was the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Richard Idike, who lauded the NSCDC for its proactive training initiatives.
“In a time when society faces escalating criminal threats, the importance of rigorous training for security personnel cannot be overstated. The NSCDC's collaboration with the Nigerian Army has greatly benefited our state,” Idike remarked.
He praised Commandant Nnadi for his exceptional leadership, which he said has led to notable improvements in operational outcomes.

One of the newly trained officers, Florence Nweke, expressed gratitude to the Commandant for the opportunity and pledged greater dedication to duty.
