The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has felicitated the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, on his 70th birthday, describing the monarch as a “stabilising voice” and father figure whose influence extends beyond religious and ethnic boundaries.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu praised the Sultan’s decades of service and his contributions to peacebuilding, religious tolerance, national cohesion and conflict resolution.

Kalu noted that since ascending the throne in 2006, following a distinguished military career, the Sultan has consistently used his position to promote dialogue and peaceful coexistence across Nigeria.

According to the Deputy Speaker, the Sultan’s leadership as the Supreme Leader of Muslims in Nigeria and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs has helped strengthen interfaith understanding and promote national unity.

Kalu said the Sultan’s military background and years of traditional leadership had combined to give him a unique perspective on the challenges facing Nigeria.

“His Eminence has provided purposeful leadership that transcends faith and ethnicity. At 70, his life of service, including his military experience, has continued to impact the country and our leaders across generations tremendously,” Kalu said.

The Deputy Speaker prayed for the Sultan’s continued good health, wisdom, strength and divine guidance, while wishing him many more years of service to the nation.

He further prayed for enduring peace in the Sokoto Caliphate and across Nigeria.
