The Kwara State Police Command has outlined how security agencies responded to the deadly attack in parts of Kwara North, stating that officers and other security operatives were deployed immediately the incident was reported. The command said the swift response was aimed at containing the violence and restoring order in the affected communities.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, directed the prompt deployment of personnel to the area after authorities were alerted. She explained that police officers worked in collaboration with the military and the National Forest Guard to respond to the crisis despite the community’s distance from Kayama Local Government Area.

Ejire-Adeyemi revealed that investigations were ongoing following reports suggesting that the attackers may have infiltrated the community before launching the assault. She described the incident as unfortunate and reassured residents that security agencies are working to prevent future occurrences of such attacks.

Security agencies have since launched clearance operations across parts of Kwara State and neighbouring Kogi State to dismantle criminal networks and restore stability in the region. The police spokesperson added that there had previously been relative peace in Kwara South before the violence spread to Kwara North.

According to police reports, gunmen attacked the Woro community and the neighbouring Nuku area at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, killing at least 75 people. The attackers reportedly burned shops, destroyed the residence of a traditional ruler, and forced residents to flee into nearby bushes for safety.

In reaction to the killings, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kwara State to strengthen ongoing security operations. Authorities say the situation has stabilised, with intensified efforts underway to apprehend those responsible for the massacre.
