The diaspora chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has endorsed a landmark initiative by the factional National Chairman Barr. Julius Abure to distribute free nomination forms to aspirants across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. The announcement was made at a press conference on May 18, 2026, the policy is designed to remove the financial barriers that have long excluded qualified candidates particularly youth and women from seeking elective office.

Under the initiative, all nomination forms for various political positions will be available at no cost. Aspirants can download the forms from Labour Party’s official platforms, complete them, and submit directly to their respective state chairpersons. Abure was direct about the intent: “This initiative is a pivotal step towards lifting the burden of monetisation in our political landscape. Every Nigerian, regardless of their financial background, deserves the opportunity to lead.”

The party has also set firm dates for its internal elections. Governorship and State Houses of Assembly primaries are scheduled for May 27, 2026, while House of Representatives and Senate primaries follow on May 29. A consensus-driven presidential candidate selection will also take place on May 29 in Abuja.

Prof. Eddie Oparaoji, Chairman of the Diaspora Labour Party Chapter and Director General of the Directorate of International and Diaspora Affairs (DIDA), backed the move from Washington DC, describing it as consistent with the party’s founding values. “This initiative is not merely about politics, it is about giving hope and representation to those who have been overlooked for too long,” he said.

The Labour Party led by Julius Abure is calling on all eligible Nigerians who have considered public service but been priced out of the process to take advantage of this opportunity. With nomination forms now free, the party’s message ahead of 2027 is clear: leadership should be earned, not purchased.
