The Lagos State Government has warned articulated vehicle, tanker, and truck operators to strictly adhere to traffic laws and speed limits following a serious collision involving a heavy-duty truck transporting Compressed Natural Gas, which crashed into a private vehicle at the crest of Apakun Bridge inward Oshodi. Officials say the crash caused severe traffic disruption and endangered lives.

Special Adviser on Transportation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Sola Giwa

Special Adviser on Transportation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mr. Sola Giwa, issued the warning in a statement, emphasising that the government will enforce traffic safety regulations and impose the full weight of the law on reckless drivers.

Preliminary security assessments indicated that the truck involved was speeding in violation of established traffic safety standards, resulting in the collision with the other vehicle. In the aftermath, two pedestrians were struck and the other driver sustained serious injuries.

Authorities from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the police, and emergency services responded promptly, rescuing and evacuating the injured to a medical facility for treatment, and securing the scene to avert further danger.

Giwa condemned the frequent accidents caused by speeding and reckless driving among truck and tanker operators, describing such behaviour as dangerously negligent and contrary to Lagos State’s goal of maintaining safe, orderly, and efficiently regulated roads.
