The 2025 National Division One Handball League got underway on Saturday at the Indoor Sports Hall of the Umuahia Township Stadium, delivering an action-packed opening day for fans.
Kwara, Funad Academy, and Edo Dynamos were among the standout winners in the women’s division. In Group A, Kwara edged Mindscope Academy 31–28, while Funad Academy overcame Abia Valiants 27–22. In Group B, Edo Dynamos defeated Pyramids 23–19, and Soof Handball cruised past Girl Child Academy with an emphatic 41–23 victory.
The men’s division also saw its share of drama. In Group A, Suleja Shooters narrowly beat Bayelsa United 19–18, while Kwara claimed a convincing 22–14 win over Mindscope Academy. In Group B, Vipers of Jos dominated Kutus Academy 27–18 after taking a commanding 14–5 lead at halftime. U&H Abia wrapped up the day with a 26–20 win against Bendel Dynamos in a thrilling finale.
