Some Northern governor at a meeting of Northern Nigerian leaders in Kaduna on Monday, December 1, 2025

Governors of the 19 northern states under the platform of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF) have reaffirmed their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging stronger collaboration to tackle insecurity and drive economic reforms across the region.

The governors made this known at the end of a high-level meeting held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, where they emphasized the urgent need for coordinated national action to address persistent security challenges.

In a communiqué issued after the meeting and signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Inuwa Yahaya, the governors commended ongoing joint efforts between state governments and federal security agencies, noting that such collaboration is beginning to yield positive results.

They reiterated their commitment to strengthening these partnerships, stressing that sustained cooperation remains critical to restoring peace in the region.

The forum also called on Nigerians to support the military and other security agencies in the ongoing fight against banditry, kidnapping, and insurgency, which continue to pose serious threats across northern states.

On institutional reforms, the governors disclosed plans to enhance coordination within the forum, including the digitisation of its secretariat to improve efficiency and ensure continuity in policy implementation.

In the economic sector, the governors resolved to engage consultants to explore new strategies for boosting internally generated revenue (IGR). This, they said, would involve identifying untapped taxable sources across the region to strengthen fiscal sustainability.

They also expressed support for ongoing engagements with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer, particularly in facilitating the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company under the Sun Africa Project.

The meeting comes amid renewed security concerns following recent violent attacks in parts of the North, including incidents in Kaduna and Plateau states that resulted in multiple casualties and heightened tensions.

Despite the challenges, the governors maintained that with sustained collaboration and strategic reforms, the region could achieve improved security and economic stability.
