Tension has escalated in Imo State following a deadly attack by suspected armed herdsmen along the busy Aba-Owerri Road on Tuesday evening. The assault, which occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the Ngor Okpala area, left one person dead and at least 26 others abducted.

According to eyewitness accounts, the assailants ambushed moving vehicles, including a commercial bus operated by God is Good Motors (GIGM), forcibly taking the driver and all 12 passengers. In a separate incident, a bus belonging to the Akwa Ibom Transport Company was also hijacked, with a female student from the University of Uyo among those kidnapped.

The brazen attack sparked widespread panic, forcing motorists to flee and bringing commercial activities in the area to a standstill. The incident underscores the deteriorating security situation along the Ngor Okpala axis, a corridor increasingly notorious for abductions and violent crimes.

Local vigilante groups and community leaders have expressed deep concern over the growing presence of suspected herdsmen in the region and are calling for urgent intervention by security agencies to restore safety along the Aba-Owerri road.
