Coventry secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time in 25 years

Nigeria international Frank Onyeka played a key role as Coventry City secured promotion to the Premier League following a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers.

The Championship encounter at Ewood Park saw Coventry claim the vital point needed to confirm their return to the English top flight for the first time in 25 years.

Blackburn took the lead early in the second half through Ryoya Morishita after a defensive sequence involving Onyeka, putting pressure on the visitors’ promotion hopes. However, Coventry responded late in the game, with Bobby Thomas heading home an equaliser to seal the historic result.

The draw ensured that Coventry secured one of the automatic promotion spots, capping an impressive campaign under manager Frank Lampard.

Onyeka, who joined Coventry on loan from Brentford, has been instrumental in the club’s late-season surge, contributing stability and energy in midfield as the team pushed for promotion.

The result marks a remarkable turnaround for Coventry, who last played in the Premier League in 2001 and have since endured years of relegation struggles and rebuilding.

Promotion sparked jubilant celebrations among players and fans, as the club completed a long-awaited return to elite English football, with attention now turning to preparations for the upcoming Premier League season.
