Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (OUK) on Sunday shared a nostalgic post on Facebook featuring an old photo from Enyimba International FC’s stadium, celebrating the club’s golden era during his tenure as Abia State Governor.

Under OUK’s leadership, Enyimba achieved historic milestones, including back-to-back victories in the CAF Champions League in 2003 and 2004.

His unwavering support provided the resources and morale boost needed for the club’s success. However, Enyimba currently faces significant challenges, with 20 losses this season under Chairman Kanu Nwankwo, compounded by the lack of visible support from the current Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti.

Adding to their woes, Enyimba suffered a stunning defeat in the State FA Cup final at the hands of non-league side Ahudiyannem FC. Despite reducing Ahudiyannem to 10 men early in the match due to a red card, Enyimba failed to capitalize and was ultimately edged out on penalties.
This shocking loss marked a historic moment for Ahudiyannem, lifting the trophy for the first time and breaking the long-standing dominance of Enyimba and Abia Warriors in the competition.
Dr. Robert Onyeani the proprietor of Ahudiyannem FC credited God and his spiritual mentor, David Ibiyomie, for the victory, fulfilling his dream of ending the duopoly.

This setback further underscores the struggles Enyimba faces both domestically and in local competitions. Fans hope the club can draw inspiration from its past successes and work toward reclaiming its former glory, even as it grapples with recent humiliations like the State FA Cup defeat.

Greatness comes through motivation. The set back experienced by the Eyimba FC is a pointer to the fact of them not being encouraged and supported by the presiding powers that be.
