Reacting to the development, presidential officials accused the former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate of seeking to tarnish Nigeria’s international reputation for political advantage.
The Presidency argued that while every politician has the right to seek support and engage consultants within the bounds of the law, no individual should attempt to portray Nigeria negatively in pursuit of personal political ambition.
According to the Presidency, national interest should always take precedence over partisan politics, stressing that efforts capable of damaging the country’s image abroad would ultimately affect all Nigerians.
