The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of an appeal arising from the leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress.

The appeal was filed by former Senate President David Mark, who is challenging earlier court decisions affecting his position as the party’s national chairman.

A five member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, granted an accelerated hearing and directed parties to file and exchange their briefs within a short timeframe ahead of the scheduled date.

The appeal, marked SC/CV/180/2026, stems from a March 12 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed Mark’s earlier challenge to a Federal High Court ruling delivered in September 2025.

At the heart of the dispute is a prolonged leadership tussle within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership structure, particularly the office of the national chairman.

The Supreme Court’s decision to fast track the case underscores the urgency of resolving the crisis, which has generated multiple litigations and raised concerns over the party’s stability ahead of future political activities.

Observers say the outcome of the appeal could determine the legitimacy of the current leadership and shape the direction of the party in the build up to the 2027 general elections.
