National grid may collapse with 6,000MW power

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured Nigerians that electricity supply across the country will improve, expressing confidence in ongoing reforms within the power sector.

The president gave the assurance while addressing party members at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Convention, where he acknowledged the persistent challenges in Nigeria’s electricity system but insisted that efforts are underway to deliver more stable power.

Tinubu noted that his administration is focused on strengthening generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure, with the goal of ensuring more reliable and accessible electricity for households and businesses.

His comments come amid longstanding concerns over Nigeria’s fragile power sector, where inconsistent supply continues to affect economic productivity and daily life. Despite being Africa’s largest economy, the country still struggles with erratic electricity, with many citizens relying on alternative energy sources.

The assurance also aligns with earlier commitments by government officials, including the Minister of Power, who has repeatedly promised improvements in electricity delivery as reforms take shape.

While the president did not give a specific timeline, his remarks signal continued government focus on resolving one of Nigeria’s most critical infrastructure challenges, even as public expectations remain high.
