President Bola Tinubu has conferred the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on Nigeria’s Super Falcons following their historic win at the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, where they claimed their 10th continental title.
Hosting the team at the Presidential Villa on Monday, Tinubu announced a reward package for the champions. Each of the 24 players will receive the naira equivalent of $100,000, a three-bedroom apartment, and the technical crew will receive $50,000 each.
Receiving the WAFCON trophy from team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Tinubu praised the players for their “dedication, courage, and for reigniting the Nigerian spirit,” adding that they had inspired millions of Nigerians, especially young girls.

“You have shown that dreams are valid and achievable. Nigeria is proud of you, and my administration will continue to support you and the generations after you,” Tinubu said.
The Nigeria Governors’ Forum, through its Chairman and Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, also awarded ₦10 million each to the players and coaching staff.
Ajibade, in her remarks, expressed gratitude to the President and dedicated the trophy to all Nigerians, especially young girls, reaffirming the team’s ambition to become the best women’s football team in the world.
A Heroic Comeback in Morocco
The Super Falcons made history on July 26, coming from 2-0 down to defeat host nation Morocco 3-2 in Rabat. Despite an early lead by the Moroccans through goals from Ghizlane Chebbak and Mssoudy, Nigeria’s resilience shone through in the second half.

Goals from Okoronkwo, Ijamilusi, and Echegini sealed a dramatic comeback, securing Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON crown in 10 final appearances.
The triumphant team was earlier received at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja to a hero’s welcome, with First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and several ministers on hand to greet the players.
