President, Bola Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has taken his first official step toward a re-election bid, picking the All Progressives Congress Expression of Interest and Nomination forms for the 2027 presidential election.

The forms were collected on Tuesday on the president’s behalf by James Faleke, the federal lawmaker representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos one of Tinubu’s closest political allies and a longtime associate from his Lagos power base.

APC National Organising Secretary Suleiman Argungu formally presented the documents to Faleke at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, in what amounted to the clearest public signal yet that the president intends to seek a second term in office.

The move comes as Nigeria’s political landscape grows increasingly competitive ahead of 2027, with opposition figures including Labour Party’s Peter Obi already holding consultations with elder statesmen across the country. By formally entering the APC’s nomination process, Tinubu has effectively fired the starting gun on what promises to be a fiercely contested election cycle.
