The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared that President Bola Tinubu will be removed from office through democratic elections not by force.
Responding to a controversial tweet from Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, which accused the opposition of plotting to overthrow the government, the ADC dismissed the claim as “reckless” and “unfounded.”
Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, said Onanuga’s statement appears to be a pretext for cracking down on opposition voices.
“The ADC condemns the tweet by President Tinubu’s aide, which falsely alleges an opposition plot to unseat the government before 2027. Such baseless accusations only serve to justify authoritarian repression of political opponents,” Abdullahi stated.

He insisted that the ADC has no interest in derailing Nigeria’s democracy but is focused on rescuing the nation from what he called the administration’s “irredeemable incompetence.”

“We are not soldiers; we are politicians. We don’t have bullets—only ballots,” Abdullahi said. “When the time comes, we’ll offer Nigerians a clear alternative and allow them to decide their future.”
The ADC emphasized its commitment to constitutional means of political change and warned against using fear tactics to silence dissent.
