Former Super Eagles winger Victor Moses has finally made his long-awaited debut for Kazakh side FC Kaisar Kyzylorda, following days of uncertainty caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East.
The 35-year-old came off the bench as Kaisar were held to a goalless draw by FC Astana in a Kazakhstan Premier League clash on Monday, marking the end of a frustrating delay that had kept him stranded in Dubai.
Moses had initially been expected to feature earlier in the season but was unable to travel due to widespread airspace disruptions triggered by the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. The situation led to flight cancellations across several countries, including the United Arab Emirates, leaving the Nigerian star temporarily stuck.
His absence meant he missed Kaisar’s season opener against FK Zhenys, with head coach Andrey Ferapontov previously confirming that the team was awaiting his arrival to complete the squad.
The former Chelsea FC player eventually arrived in Kazakhstan last Friday after travel routes reopened, allowing him to link up with his new teammates and begin his latest chapter in professional football.
Moses’ debut, although limited in minutes, is seen as a significant step as he looks to regain match fitness and make an impact in the Kazakhstan top flight.
Meanwhile, fellow Nigerian forward Imoh Ezekiel, who also faced similar travel disruptions, was not included in the matchday squad and is still awaiting his debut for the club.
The incident highlights the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on global sports, with several athletes across different leagues experiencing travel challenges and disruptions to their professional commitments.
For Moses, however, the focus now shifts to football and the task of helping Kaisar climb the league table after a delayed but much-anticipated start.
